Natural Rarity, Pesti Caves, and Cave Churches

In the rocky part of Pesti there are about 80 caves and five cave churches, which makes this area unique.This natural rarity is 2.5 km from the confluence of the river Babuna in Vardar. Its shape is in the form of a funnel, about 50 m high. down narrow, barely five meters high, 200 meters high, 400 meters long. It is located in the protected area of ​​the Babuna River.

Most of the people from Veles know about Pest, they were there for a walk. But there are few who enter the numerous caves, located on the high cliffs, where one can see the breathtaking view. It takes a lot of skill to climb one’s steep capers, which for the inexperienced is a life threat. The characteristic of these caves is that there are several churches, which is a rarity. There are five cave churches in the locality Pesti. The largest is the Markova Church – St. Nicholas. 

Built in the cave itself, it has walls, like any church. How the builders climbed the material along this vertical stone is unknown.The churches and frescoes in the area of ​​Pesti are a rare Balkan example of this art and an important cultural and historical source for the fresco painting on the territory of Macedonia. This is a rare and unique monument in the Balkans and perhaps beyond.

 Based on these very damaged characters, they can be considered very valuable, as they are seen to have been worked by an author who was well versed in classical traditions and educated in some of the best of medieval ateliers.Pesti is a well-known ornithological site in Macedonia, there are rare birds of prey living here, which are less common in the country, so it has been declared a protected area.
